Welcome to John Dodson Art.
Following a successful career as a freelance designer and illustrator in the London area, John Dodson, 85, now works from his studio based in the Somerset village of Stoke-sub-Hamdon. His exhibition scheduled for Saturday 17 July marks the very first time John’s full collection of original works has been exhibited and offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts and collectors to view and/or procure one of his beautiful pieces of art.
Always fascinated by steam trains and railways, part of his collection takes an innovative approach to showing the power and beauty of some of the UK’s favourite locomotives, coaching stock and wagon. The collection gives a new perspective on a fascinating subject matter and has allowed John use of watercolour and acrylics to create powerful and emotive images of a past era. John is an Associate Member of the Guild of Railway Artists.
The age of steam and aviation are by no means John’s only subject matters as his exhibition demonstrates the raw talent for capturing personalities in portraits. The results are a true testament to his exceedingly talented eye for character.
John believes he inherited his talent from his late Father whose paintings he has fond and distinct memories of as a child. With no formal art training, John’s artistry is entirely self-taught and shows his dedication to the form over the decades. His work in the design industry helped to provide a great appreciation for perspective and detail which is captured in his earlier railway works and is still seen today in his most recent aviation-themed artworks.
The exhibition will display over 30 original art-works, professionally framed and available for purchase at competitive prices. 20% of the proceeds will be donated equally between the Hamdon Community Arts Project and SSAFA.
